The AFM 34 mask was designed for the French Navy and was worn with a special design helmet. The most interesting particularity of this mask is that the filter is iworn on the back of the head and connected to the mask by a corrugated hose running over the head The mask is mainly made of a die pressed steel frontpiece including two eyepieces arranged to be in the same plane, allowing to use optical binocular instuments, and a voicemitter in front of the mouth, the exhale valve is located at the bottom of the frontpiece. The air inlet tube is located at the top of the frontpiece and pass through it to form a Tissot tube system to demist the eyepieces, the connection of the rubber hose is fastened on the tube by means of a wire spring clamp. The airproofing of the mask on the face of the wearer is done by means of a rubberized and oiled fabric skirt as on the ARS 17 and ANP T 31.

A special seven points spring straps head harness includes a wire clamp, passing through a slot located on the back of the helmet, allowing hold the filter, a leather protection is located under the wire clamp to protect the head of the wearer. The filter,of the same pattern of the CP 35 M, have been made by Schneider-Poëlman manufacturer. The mask is carried in a parallelipedic steel box worn on the back by means of two straps. A civilian model, issued without helmet, has been sold in the commercial market.
