| IP 5 ( Izoliruyushii Protivogaz ) Military Oxygen Brething Apparatus, about 1950 | |

The IP 5 rebreather is a large apparatus allowing long duration use, up to three hours Its design is totally different than the IP46 / IP 4 pattern. The rubberized canvas breathing bag is a circular collar pattern and is worn around the neck. It is enclosed in a second heavyer rubberized canvas bag attached to the scrubber holding bag. It has two connection fittings to connect to the
scrubber, one relieve valve and two water admition valve to increase
oxygen production if necessary, during diving works. The large scrubber is located
under the breathing bag and worn on the chest. It is contained in a heavy
rubberized canvas pocked closed by three buckles. A waist belt and a back strap,
attached at one end to the top of the breathing bag is passing between the
legs and fastened by a buckle at the other end under the scrubber,
complete the apparatus. On the top of the scrubber, two connecting fittings allow to connect the scrubber to the breathing bag. The starting switch is located between them. The large srubber allows a working duration up to three hours in of shore light work conditions. The ShIP-M hood mask is made of shaped moulded grey or black rubber. It has an inside soft rubber watertighting rim and an half mask. A short corrugated hose, permanently attached to the mask, connects the mask to the breathing bag by means of a threaded fittinhg. An adjustable rubber strap, running around the back edge of the hood and attached to the front part of the mask, prevents the mask to not be removed from the head during underwater swiming. The IP 5 is still in production in Russia to day for military and, as well as, for industrial needs.

This rebreather have been designed
for Amphibian Armoured Fighting Vehicule Crews. In case of sinking of the
vehicule, it allows to the crew to escape from it.
It is composed of a mask with hose, a regenerative scrubber, a breathing bag, an aluminium frame, the whole components included in a bag with ajustable straps allowing to wear the apparatus on the left side or on the chest for the IP 46 and only on the chest for the IP 46 M, due to the short breathing hose. The mask is, of course, a hooded
model. It is made of green rubber glued sheeting. The hose is permanently
attached to the mask, the glass eyepieces are are tightened on the mask by
means of crimped rings. An inside nose clip complete the mask The
apparatus is included in the aluminium frame maintaining a rubber U shaped
breathing bag with a relieve valve and the scubber, secured by an
aluminium strap with locking device. The scubber ( RP 46, Regerativnii Patrone ) contains Potassium Peroxide ( KO2 ).A fast starting device is mounted on the top of the scrubber can. The scrubber is connected to the breathing bag by connector at the base of the scrubber can, the breathing hose is connected to the scrubber at its top, at side of the starting device.

| IP 46 M ( Izoliruyushii Protivogaz ) Military Oxygen Brething Apparatus, about 1950 | |
IP 46 mask with long hose IP 46 M mask with short hose |
The IP 46 M is the same apparatus,
but includes on the top of the breathing bag two valves allowing to
introduce small quantity of water to active the oxygen production
according to needs.
The working principle is simple :
The wearer put the mask after to have taken a large breath, he starts the
system by pulling the starting device, this produce oxygen, then the
wearer can exhale the air contained in his lungs. After that, the breathing exhale water moisture reacts on the KO2 to fix the exale breathing CO2 and produces the requested oxygen for the nexy inhalation and so on, up to about one hour breathing. The working principle makes an increasing of the temperature of the scrubber, so to avoid the wearer to have burns on the chest, the scrubber is isolated in a rubberized wool small bag. The IP 46 and IP 46 M was also used on shore as isolating breathing apparatus when breathing conditions are not required ( presence of carbon monoxide, too high level of CO2 or too high level of other military or industrial chemicals. |

ShIP-26( k ) mask |
The
IP4 rebreather is an improvement of the IP 46 / IP 46 M apparatus
It is mainly designed like the IP 46, but with little smaller breathing bag and a larger scrubber cartridge allowing a longer protection time, up to two and half hours on shore. An U shaped rfubbder breathing bag with relieve valve is disposed in a aluminium frame on which is monted the scrubber, tightened by an aluminium strap. The whole assembly is contained in a rubberized canvas bag. The ShIP-26( k ) mask is made by shaped moulding of grey rubber. An inside soft rubber rim allows a better waterproofing of the mask to the wearer face. The
glass eyepieces are tightened to the mask by means of crimped rings.

The post Sovietic production has changed the traditional hooded mask to a more modern one. The IP 4 M mask is a chaped moulded mask made of grey or black rubber with triangular curved plexiglass eyepieces. The mask has an inside rim for better watertighting and a half mask. In front of the mask a voicemeter is housed in a plastic casing. The head harness is made of adjustable rubber straps The
IP 4 is still in production in Russia to day for military and, as well as,
for industrial needs.

![]() |
The KIP-8 is a military and civilian
OBA ( Oxygen Breatning Apparatus ) designed to be worn on the back like
the German Dräger 160 apparatus. The apparatus, is contained in a light alloy case equiped with a harness and a belt. A cover closes the case. It is worn on the back. The case contains an 1 litre oxygen high pressure bottle ( 150 bar ), a 9 litres molded rubber breathing bag, a scrubber can ( 1 Kg of soda lime ), and a oxygen constant flow valve ( 2.5 l / min ). This valve has a hand operated additional oxygen supply valve. The breathing bag has two connectors, one to the oxygen delivery valve, the second to the scrubber. An overpressure valve is disposed on the bag and is screwed on the back of the case. Two rubber corrugated breathing hoses, one inhale, from the oxygen delivery valve, one exhale, to the scrubber, they are connected to the hood mask by means of threaded connectors. |

The mask is the same model as for the
IP 4 rebreather.
It is composed of the facepiece of
the ShIP ( k ) mask of the IP 4 rebreather but with a T fitting in place
of the single hose of the IP 4 The breathing hoses are screwed on the T
fitting and contains inhale and exhale valvesin the hose connectors
