FATRA FM 3 serie  Civil defense mask, about 1937/38.

The pre-war Fatra FM 3 serie of masks is a excellent exemple of the low cost but rather modern Czech gas masks design. These Fatra masks are a good exemple of a mass production of a modern gas mask and probabely the most important of their production.

FM 3 ( x ? )  Civilian defense mask, about 1937

This mask is probabely the first model of the serie of FM 3 masks.

The facepiece is made of moulded rubber including, in the moulding, the head harness hooks, It has not Tissot vents. The outside of the masks presents a raised cross-hatching moulded on the brow and the cheeks.

The design of the chin part of the mask includes a kind of lip preventing the chin to slide against the frontpiece, this arrangment diappear on the following FM 3 masks.

The frontpiece is made of flat cast light alloy and includes the filter connection screwing and at the lower part, the exhalation valve housing., It has not a Tissot déflector

The exhalation valve is the same as on the FM 1 serie.

The eyepices are made of Triplex glasses and tightened on the facepiece by means of bare aluminium crimped rings.

The six-point head harness is made of elasticized straps and adjusting buckles.
